Sometimes the enthusiasm of youth can be a catalyst for action.

That’s the case with Kate Spriggs of Taupō-nui-a-Tia College who contacted the Taupō Winter Festival (TWF) organisers to see if there would be any opportunities for busking.

Event organiser Nicola de Lautour mentioned the idea to Creative Taupō and we are pleased to announce some quick discussions have resulted in Creative Taupō and TWF organising a free youth busking area under the marquee on the Tongariro South Domain.

Two 45-minute slots, one at 6pm and one at 7pm (with a 15-minute change over between) will be available during the following evenings:

  • Saturday July 4
  • Thursday July 9
  • Friday, July 10
  • Saturday, July 11
  • Thursday, July 16,
  • Friday, July 17 and
  • Saturday, July 18

Organisers believe these will be the busiest evenings at the Tongariro South Domain.

Prospective buskers should be largely self-sufficient in terms of equipment, and the site does not provide power, though Creative Taupō might be able to help with some battery powered gear.

Buskers can keep whatever they make in donations and should remember to dress for the conditions (a Taupō winter evening).

Those interested can sign up through the form below with places then confirmed by Creative Taupō.

Buskers need to sign up by 5pm on Friday, June 26. Creative Taupō will post the final order at 12noon on Sunday, June 28.
