An 85 strong group of student musicians from Brisbane is visiting Taupō next month as part of a New Zealand tour, presenting concerts at St Patrick’s Primary School (Thursday, December 4) and Taupō-nui-a-Tia College (Friday, December 5).
The group which draws students from Padua College and its sister school, Mt Alvernia College, as well as junior campuses, Padua and St Anthony’s Primary Schools, will put on a 90-minute show from a variety of ensembles including string orchestra, concert band, big band and percussion ensemble.
The Franciscan Colleges boast a long and proud tradition in music with an instrumental programme set up in 1983 to provide tuition on band and orchestral instruments for the four schools.
The Franciscan Colleges Instrumental Programme (FCIP) currently has over 500 students participating in weekly lessons and ensemble rehearsals before or after school with the senior FCIP ensembles undertaking a music tour every second year.
