I am Sally-Ann Davies, a passionate printmaker specialising in the art of printmaking, including monoprinting, drypoint, linocut and woodcuts. Through my workshops and retreats, I aim to share the joy of this craft with people of all ages and skill levels. From first-time creators to experienced artists, my goal is to guide and inspire, fostering a love for handmade art. I look forward to bringing the creativity of printmaking to the community through Creative Taupo.
With a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Fine Art from Liverpool John Moores’ University, Sally-Ann Davies began her artistic journey in England before finding her home in Taupo, New Zealand. After years as an art educator, a pivotal moment in her career came in 2011 after eye surgery. The new clarity in her vision ignited a commitment to seriously pursue her creative path.
Printmaking became her passion, and her work quickly gained recognition in solo and group exhibitions throughout New Zealand and overseas. In 2017, an art residency in Tuscany, Italy, solidified her desire to become a full-time artist, a goal she achieved in 2021.
Today, Sally-Ann's woodcut prints are a testament to her profound connection to the New Zealand landscape. She layers different printing techniques—monoprinting for light, collagraphs for texture, and woodcut for defining the landscape’s contours.
Sally-Ann also shares her love for printmaking by leading workshops and retreats in New Zealand and the UK, fostering creativity in others. Her work continues to inspire and engage, revealing the beauty of nature through her skilled and passionate approach to printmaking.
