Donovan Bixley is one of New Zealand’s most beloved author/illustrators with over 130 titles published in New Zealand and overseas.
Known for his colourful dynamic style, he has produced best-selling picture books such as The Wheels on the Bus and The Great Kiwi ABC Book, as well as his humorous retellings of the legends of Māui. He also wrote and illustrated the hilarious Flying Furballs series of children’s novels.
Not limited to any genre, Donovan has created a huge range of books spanning fiction and non-fiction, from preschool to adult. From the silly antics of flying cats to more lofty subjects such as the lives of Shakespeare and Leonardo da Vinci.
Donovan has received a number of national and international awards and in 2021 he was named an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for his services to New Zealand children’s books.
Donovan grew up in Taupō and still lives beside the great lake. When not immersed in the world of picture books Donovan is involved in local theatre and music. He plays saxophone and sings in several bands including local funk band ‘Hot Tub’.
