It takes a village to raise our tamariki ! No one can do it alone.
But assistance is available.
This month Mind Over Manner will be presenting a free Takiwātanga / Aroreretini / Neurodiversity workshop in Taupō.
The workshop aimed at anyone you know who “does not know what to do next” is on Tuesday, November 18 at the Function Room, Taupō Events Centre, 26 AC Baths Avenue, 5.30-8.30pm.
It will also be presented the following day, Wednesday, November 19 at Thurston Theatre, John Paul College, Whitworth Road, Rotorua.
Mind Over Manner workshops use the power of theatre to introduce participants to an alternative way of understanding the many people who sense and learn differently – those often diagnosed (or not diagnosed) with neurodiversity (autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, oppositional defiant disorder and others).
An experienced team of actors show how a person’s sensory overload and cognitive relationship with the world can often result in rude, shutdown or confused behaviour.
The workshop brings scenarios to life then works with participants to unpack, look at collective learnings and re-evaluate responses to difficult situations.
The workshop focuses on those 12 years and under but the key tenets can be applied to all ages. It is relevant to all who live alongside or work with people who are anxious, or have behavioural, sensory and learning differences.
It is for whānau, friends, neighbours, educators, health and wellbeing professionals, social, first response and justice workers, locals in public – who may happen to come across a young person who feels anxious or isolated.
