Around two classrooms worth of primary school students enjoyed an afternoon polishing six songs at Waipahihi School on Wednesday, October 28.
The students, from Waipahihi and St Patrick’s School, sang while accompanying themselves on ukelele.
Waipahihi classroom teacher and music specialist Monique Vossen, assisted by St Pats music teacher Kaylene Carson, said it was a successful day with the concert at the end attended by the whole school as well as parents – with even some of them singing along.
Vossen has aimed to make the ukelele day an annual event with various local schools over the past couple of years joining in – and she’s keen to have as many participate in future as possible.
She runs a ukelele club at the school for senior and junior students and says enthusiasm for the instrument is growing.
